KIU Version history
Version 2.5 changes
- automounter: KIU will mount Appleshare volumes at startup and will
remount these volumes if the Mac was disconnected from the server. An e-mail
is sent when a volume is remounted or when the remount fails.
- improved password security:
- each time a bad password is entered when accessing the webinterface,
the delay for re-entering the password is doubled. Somebody trying to guess
the password will be slowed down considerably, because after only a few
guesses, the delay increases to several minutes, making password guessing
completely impractical.
- after 5 wrong passwords, the access is forbidden from that browser-session,
forcing an intruder to relaunch his browser for each additional attempt.
This should slow down intrusion attempts even further.
- some software creates logfiles that aren't detected when added to
the KIU Weblog folder, even though they contain plain text. To remedy this,
simply rename of the alias to make it end with ".log"
- a link at the bottom of the webinterface takes you straight to the
Kagi registation page for KIU
- the IP address of the Mac running KIU is now displayed in all webpages
and e-mail messages. This makes it easier to distinguish different Macs
running KIU.
- added a logfile view option of 256KB
- the webinterface is now compatible with the Opera browser and Netscape
6.x.
- relaunch options have changed: KIU sets a relaunch limit on each
individual application. When exceeded, KIU can be told to either ignore
that application or restart the Mac.
- documentation is now in html format
Version 2.4.5 changes
- a few minor bug fixes
- the name of this product has been changed from Keep It Up to Keep-It-Up
Classic to avoid confusion with the OS X version.
- an 68000 version of KIU is no longer included. If you still need
the 68K version, drop me an e-mail.
Version 2.4.1 changes
- bug fix: in some cases, the e-mail notification interval was not
respected and e-mails were sent every 5 minutes.
- an e-mail notification is not only send before KIU restarts the Mac,
but also a few minutes after KIU gets launched, thus after each restart
of the Mac.
Version 2.4 changes
- e-mail notification: KIU can send e-mail messages to you, actively
alerting you of certain events. When enabled, KIU will send e-mail notifications
when
- an application gets relaunched
- KIU restarts the Mac
- somebody uses an invalid username/password to access the KIU webserver
- an alarm is triggered (see below)
- Alarms: KIU can monitor the memory and disk resources of your Mac.
If free memory or disk space falls below a certain preset level, this will
trigger an alarm and send an e-mail notification.
- all items (applications and documents) in the "KIU Startup Items"
folder are now launched in alphabetical order.
- the "view logfile" command allows you to choose which part of the
logfile you wish to see.
- New KIU logfiles are created for use with BBEdit instead of Simpletext.
For use of other text editors, consult the manual.
